Irony: back on LJ, 10 years ago, "damned if you do damned if you don't" was a cop-out and we all knew it.
Now? "Fail better" died in a corner somewhere, and we have half of fandom going "you shouldn't write about characters of color! let POC tell POC stories! and how dare you act like a story about a brown character isn't necessarily a story about race!" While the other half go "you should write about characters of color, because not doing so is racist! but you must write them in the Right Way, and for the Right Reasons! otherwise you will be hateful forever!"
Like... congratulations, fandom. Your rabid pursuit of Wokeness has turned the sad excuses of yesteryear into fannish realities.
